HOW TO ADD A QUERY
If you want to add a query please note this:
-
Please do not
try to add a query like "I am looking for my XYZ parents. Family lore says they are from
Europe ...". All queries should contain at least:
-
a definite name ( family and if possible first name(s))
and
-
a definite place ( not "Germany" or "Saxony" but
Leipzig
,
Dresden
,
Kötzschenbroda
,… ) It is unnecessary to mention Saxony as this site only deals with Saxony. eg
Leipzig
is situated in Saxony and the - in the states usual X-Town/Y-state -
Leipzig
. Saxony,Germany is therefore not needed.
Please be sure
that the place of origin is located in the
Bundesland (means state ) of Sachsen
. This region is more or less
identical to
the heartland of
the former Kingdom of Saxony
. For locations in the Prussian Province of Saxony please use the Sachsen-Anhalt
pages, for Sachsen - Weimar, Sachsen - Altenburg, Sachsen - Henneberg etc
(ruled by relatives of the Kings of Saxony- its a little bit tricky to
puzzle it out if you are not to familiar with the Saxon history, I know ) please look at the
Thüringen
pages.
Lower Saxony
is
Niedersachsen
and has also its own pages.
-
and a date that is as exact as possible.
-
Please remember
that names usually becomes americanized ( canadianized, australianized ... )
during immigration. So please do not wonder if a Frederick in your letter
becomes a Friederich in this list, an Elizabeth would be Elisabeth, John Johann,
Henry Heinrich etc.

The pronounciation in Saxony
The Pronounciation in Saxony differs in relation to other German areas.
Most significant is that there is no difference between b and p, g and k, d and t.
In fact, p, k and t seem to be completely ignored. ( ie. for Saxons: B is the
"soft" B, P is the "hard" B ) This leads to some uncertainties, especially in
documents from before 1871. If you can't find a place or name including a "b",
"g" or "d" always try it again replacing them by "p", "k" or "t". "ck" is sometimes
replaced by "gg" or "g" ( Lucka = Lugga) , "ig" by "ch" (
Leipzig - Leibzich
). Do likewise if family or first names look like names you know better in the replaced way ...
